Sam ran down to the sea. Sam had a red bucket and a big blue spade. “I will build the best sandcastle on the beach,” said Sam with a great big grin.
Pat, Pat, Pat
Sam dug in the soft, wet sand. Sam filled the bucket right to the top. Sam gave it a pat, pat, pat. Then Sam flipped it over. Up popped a tall sand tower!
Up It Grows
Up went a wall. Up went a gate. Up went a bridge and a deep, round moat. Sam found a shell for the door. Sam found a stick for the little flag. It was the grandest castle Sam had ever made.
A Big Wave
But then Sam saw a big wave. It rushed up the beach with a splash and a hiss. “Oh no!” said Sam. “My castle!” The wave washed one soft wall away.
Build It Again
But Sam did not cry. Sam did not stop. “I can just build it again,” said Sam. So Sam dug and packed and patted once more. The castle grew tall and strong and proud.
The Best Castle
Sam sat back in the warm, gold sun. The castle stood tall beside the sea. “That is the best one yet,” said Sam. And this time, Sam was right. The End.
