Friendship Stories That Teach Sharing and Kindness (Ages 3–6)

Young children learn a surprising amount about getting along from the stories they hear. A well-pitched friendship tale gives them a safe way to practise sharing, taking turns and being kind — long before they have to do it in the playground.

Why stories work for this

Children step into a character's shoes without any pressure of their own. When the hero shares a snack or says sorry, your child rehearses the feeling too. Keep the reading level right and the lesson lands without it ever feeling like a lecture.

It lands even harder when your child is the hero. Try a Reception or KS1 friendship story starring them, and talk afterwards about what their character chose to do.
